Overview
An organization is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Georgia courts and handle first-party insurance defense matters. This position is based in Savannah, GA, within the Staff Counsel team.
Responsibilities
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Provide opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and manage pleadings, motions, and discovery processes, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath
- Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings as applicable
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to and good standing with the Georgia Bar
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury
- Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
- Strong written communication skills to document files clearly and professionally
- Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and manage multiple priorities
- Capacity to learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in civil litigation
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience
- Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $118,900.00 - $185,525.00
- Final salary offer depends on role scope, candidate experience, education, location, and market factors
