Overview

This role supports a healthcare organization focused on providing comprehensive care and support services to older adults through a Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). The Associate General Counsel will join a legal team to provide broad legal support during a period of significant growth, primarily supporting People/HR, Product/AI teams, and overseeing the Privacy program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on all People Team operations including hiring, onboarding, performance management, terminations, leaves of absence, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and workplace policies, ensuring compliance with employment law across corporate and professional entity structures.
  • Support the Product Team with legal guidance related to technology and AI innovation, particularly within healthcare regulatory frameworks.
  • Advise on privacy law compliance, including HIPAA and CPRA, covering data collection, use, storage, sharing, breach response, and consumer data rights.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across operations, contracts, and strategic initiatives; develop and refine legal frameworks, policies, and processes to support rapid growth.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with healthcare laws and regulations, including value-based care arrangements, provider risk-sharing agreements, managed care regulations, licensing, credentialing, patient privacy, PACE programs, and billing/reimbursement.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts with clinicians, facilities, healthcare providers, and strategic partners.
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel as needed.
  • Provide legal advice to executives and business units on operational and strategic matters.
  • Support the General Counsel by handling escalated or specialized legal matters and stepping in during their absence.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the relevant state bar association, ideally California.
  • Significant legal leadership experience with increasing responsibility, ideally combining in-house and law firm roles.
  • Experience supporting HR, Product, and Privacy teams with knowledge of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare regulatory frameworks, including California-specific laws, and experience interacting with regulatory bodies such as CMS, DHCS, OIG, or other state and federal agencies.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment, navigate ambiguity, and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Strong learning and growth mindset, including seeking feedback and using data to inform decisions.
  • High integrity and ownership, considering organizational impact and delivering results.

Essential Functions & Physical Requirements

  • Effective communication with participants, caregivers, team members, and stakeholders via in-person, phone, and electronic means.
  • Ability to remain stationary or move about for extended periods as required.
  • Travel between work sites or community locations as needed.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $214,000 - $257,000 annually.
  • Eligible for a target annual bonus of 15% and additional incentive compensation as applicable.
