Overview
This full-time Staff position is for an Associate General Counsel with a focus on employment-based immigration matters affecting the organization’s international workforce, as well as other immigration-related legal issues.
- Location: Lexington, KY (remote work arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates whose experience and work style support success in an independent remote environment)
- Schedule: Typically Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Additional work hours may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel, representation, and strategic guidance on employment-based immigration matters.
- Serve as the organization’s primary immigration attorney, advising leadership, hiring officials, and other stakeholders on:
- immigration strategy
- regulatory compliance
- risk management
- workforce planning
- Represent the organization before federal agencies on employment-based immigration matters.
- Provide legal support on immigration issues for university-sponsored employees, faculty, researchers, students, and other community members, including:
- immigrant and nonimmigrant visa classifications
- employment-based permanent residency
- other complex immigration matters
- Collaborate with colleges, departments, and administrative units to:
- develop immigration-related policies
- ensure compliance with federal immigration laws and regulations
- advance academic, research, healthcare, and service missions
- Support recruitment, retention, and immigration sponsorship efforts for physician faculty and other healthcare providers within the College of Medicine and university-owned healthcare facilities, including those serving rural communities throughout Kentucky.
Requirements
- Education: JD
- Related Experience: 5 years
- Licensure/Registration/Certification: Currently a member of the Kentucky Bar Association or eligible for admission without further examination
