Overview
This role is part of the Employment Legal Team supporting employment and workplace matters for a global, remote-first organization. The work focuses on balancing legal compliance with practical, business-oriented guidance. You will advise internal stakeholders, support the Talent function, and help develop scalable legal frameworks to support hiring and people operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on employment law matters, including:
- Workplace investigations
- Human rights and accommodations
- Employee compensation
- Employee mobility
- Employment standards and performance management/terminations
- Primary focus on USA matters, with support for global needs
- Act as a strategic partner to the Talent team
- Build scalable legal frameworks that enable Talent velocity rather than one-off answers
- Identify opportunities for improved systems and playbooks and lead change
- Draft internal policies/communications and key employment documents
- Lead pre-litigation employment matters and partner with outside counsel on litigation
- Maintain subject matter expertise in new and evolving areas of global employment law
Requirements
- J.D. or LL.B and a license to practice law in any U.S. state
- Significant employment law experience, ideally starting at a law firm followed by in-house experience
- Experience handling high urgency, high priority matters with senior stakeholders involving sensitive issues; discretion is required
- Exceptional business judgment, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to be a self-starter who thrives without regular oversight
- Comfort navigating and making decisions at speed in the midst of ambiguity and frequent change
- Experience managing external legal counsel
- Demonstrated, fluent use of AI tools as a core part of how you work, including using AI to research, draft, analyze, and accelerate output, with a point of view on how AI improves work on a lean, high-leverage team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in tech and/or start-up environments (remote experience is a plus)
- Experience with employment law in multiple jurisdictions
