Overview
An established sports nutrition company is seeking a hands-on Assistant General Counsel to support its business teams. This role reports to the Chief Legal Officer and involves working across two affiliated brands within a lean legal department. The position requires strong commercial instincts and regulatory knowledge, particularly in FDA and FTC-regulated environments related to dietary supplements and beverages.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including co-manufacturing, supply, distribution, retail, vendor, and services agreements.
- Advise marketing and brand teams on advertising claims, claim substantiation, label compliance, and regulatory requirements under FDA and FTC for dietary supplements and beverages.
- Draft and manage agreements related to influencers, athletes, ambassadors, sponsorships, endorsements, and name/image/likeness (NIL), ensuring social media terms and disclosure compliance.
- Handle trademark, copyright, trade dress, and advertising clearance matters to protect brand assets.
- Manage consumer protection, privacy, subscription/auto-renewal compliance, and coordinate litigation and regulatory responses, including NAD challenges and state attorney general inquiries, working with outside counsel.
- Balance priorities across two affiliated companies and manage outside counsel relationships and legal budgets.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Florida, or licensed in another U.S. state and eligible for Florida Authorized House Counsel certification under Chapter 17 of the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of in-house legal experience.
- 3 to 5 years of prior law firm experience.
- Strong background in commercial law and contracts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with dietary supplement (DSHEA) and food/beverage regulatory law.
- Knowledge of FTC advertising rules, claim substantiation, and influencer disclosure compliance.
- Trademark law experience.
- Experience with privacy and data security law.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $150,000 - $175,000 per year, commensurate with experience and skillset.
