Overview

This role involves serving as Associate Legal Counsel focused on Real Estate and Project Development within a renewable energy organization. The position supports legal aspects of project development, external affairs, and real estate business functions, working closely with senior legal counsel and cross-functional teams to negotiate, diligence, and mitigate risks related to real estate operations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage negotiation and administration of site control transactions including purchase options, easement agreements, and closings.
  • Conduct title and survey diligence and risk mitigation; draft and negotiate closing documents.
  • Support project finance by drafting, negotiating, and administering real estate agreements and title/survey deliverables related to financing transactions.
  • Advise and support external affairs and project development teams on local land use permitting and zoning ordinance review and strategy.
  • Supervise outside counsel engagements efficiently, while managing most legal work in-house.
  • Provide general legal diligence and advisory support on real estate-related topics including regulatory, environmental, and corporate governance matters.
  • Manage multiple transactions and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Identify business risks and deliver practical, balanced legal advice tailored to operational needs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders including landowners, local officials, and financing partners.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in at least one U.S. state.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a real estate attorney in a top-tier law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Substantial experience with real estate purchase and sale transactions, title and survey review, and independently leading transactions and diligence.
  • Mastery of real estate and property law fundamentals executed at a high level of complexity.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Proven ability to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders.
  • If working remotely, ability to maintain strong collaboration with both remote and in-office teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in renewable energy legal matters is preferred but not required.
