Overview

This primarily remote role based in California offers an opportunity to serve as an Associate Attorney representing an insurance organization and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. The position involves managing cases from inception through resolution, providing legal advice, and supporting claims professionals in matters involving personal injury or property damage claims.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of litigation including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting pleadings and motions.
  • Support senior trial and litigation counsel throughout the litigation process.
  • Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to claims representatives and insured clients.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
  • Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinate effectively with remote team members.
  • Identify and evaluate legal risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents.
  • Provide timely updates and recommendations to clients and claims professionals.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve efficiency and best practices within the legal and compliance teams.
  • Adhere to high standards of legal ethics and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses for specific boards or federal courts may be required.
  • General knowledge of insurance law; familiarity with workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law is a plus.
  • Proficiency with e-discovery, case management systems, and legal analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
  • Basic negotiation skills including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.
  • Effective written and oral communication and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
  • Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.
