Overview
This role is primarily remote within the state of California. The position involves representing the organization and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. The focus is on claims for monetary damages or compensation related to personal injury or property damage.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of litigation including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting legal documents such as pleadings and motions.
- Support senior counsel in case handling through trial preparation and management.
- Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to claims representatives and insured clients.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
- Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Coordinate effectively with remote team members.
- Identify and evaluate legal risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents.
- Provide timely updates and recommendations to clients and claims professionals.
- Participate in initiatives to enhance efficiency and best practices within the legal and compliance organizations.
- Uphold legal ethics and compliance standards.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses for specific boards or federal courts may be required.
- General knowledge of insurance law; familiarity with workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law is a plus.
- Proficiency in e-discovery, case management systems, and legal analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
- Basic negotiation skills including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
- Ability to manage cases from inception through resolution under supervision.
- Effective written and oral communication and persuasion skills.
- Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
- Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.
Compensation & Benefits
- The typical starting salary range is based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
