Overview
This primarily remote role is based in the state of California, with occasional required appearances.
An Associate Attorney position is available to represent the organization and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. The role involves managing cases from inception through resolution, applying legal knowledge, research skills, and client relationship management in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage all phases of litigation including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting pleadings and motions.
- Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel throughout case handling and trial preparation.
- Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication.
- Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Coordinate effectively with remote team members.
- Identify and evaluate legal risks and collaborate on mitigation strategies.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance of all legal documents and pleadings.
- Provide timely updates and recommendations to clients and claims professionals.
- Participate in initiatives to enhance efficiency and best practices within legal teams.
- Uphold high standards of legal ethics and compliance.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the California bar and in good standing; additional licenses to practice before specific boards or federal courts may be required.
- General knowledge of insurance law, and as applicable, workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law.
- Proficiency with e-discovery, case management systems, and legal analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
- Basic negotiation skills including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.
- Effective written and oral communication and persuasion skills.
- Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
- Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.
