Overview

This role is fully remote and is a full-time independent contractor position. Work is intended to support US Eastern Time working hours.

The organization is seeking an attorney development and people-management professional to build associate development from the ground up. The role focuses on creating feedback cadences, developing learning and development programs, and establishing touchpoints that help associates feel connected to the firm and grow into long-term, fully utilized members of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build and implement a feedback cadence that supports ongoing growth beyond an annual review.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships with partners and firm leadership, tailoring approaches on a case-by-case basis.
  • Create a sense of community through programs and touchpoints that help associates feel like part of the firm.
  • Own learning & development (L&D) end-to-end, including course design grounded in adult learning theory, to build associates’ skills and support career progression.
  • Coach and mentor associates as a people manager, including coaching individuals, resolving performance concerns, and supporting development.
  • Use data to drive decisions by analyzing utilization and performance data to identify where associates may be under- or mis-utilized and translating findings into action.
  • Contribute a point of view on talent acquisition and future programs to grow the attorney team, using working knowledge of US employment law where it intersects with development and performance.
  • Represent attorney development as a meaningful function within the organization and communicate with authority to influence how leadership thinks about people development.

Requirements

  • Legal or attorney-development background; ideally experience working inside a law firm or legal tech environment.
  • Strong judgment in ambiguous situations, including identifying what’s missing, prioritizing, and driving outcomes.
  • Strong L&D program design skills, including training grounded in adult learning theory.
  • Real coaching and mentoring experience; ideally previous people-management experience.
  • Working knowledge of US employment law (not required to be a legal expert, but able to recognize when closer review is needed).
  • Data-driven approach, including comfort pulling together utilization and performance data to identify issues and make recommendations.
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) for coaching attorneys and influencing leadership.
  • Americas time zone coverage, ideally ET, with real overlap with the team and the attorneys being supported.
  • Resilient, direct, transparent temperament with comfort working in ambiguity.
  • Being AI-forward and tech-savvy is essential.
