Overview
An established law firm is seeking an experienced attorney to manage a post-settlement docket of approximately 1,200 active claims. These claims have reached settlement agreements but have not yet closed, with some cases pending for over a year. The primary goal of this role is to actively move these cases to final resolution.
Responsibilities
- Manage a docket of post-settlement claims from agreement through final closure
- Track case statuses and proactively identify files that are stalling
- Request court-ordered deadlines for defense counsel to complete settlement paperwork
- File motions with the Office of Administrative Law Judges (OALJ), including requests for deadlines, remand requests, and status conferences
- Attend status conferences as needed
- Follow up directly with the OALJ to ensure motions are ruled on and granted
- Communicate regularly via phone and email with opposing counsel to advance settlements toward closure
- Escalate issues when cooperation from opposing counsel stalls
- Apply appropriate pressure and follow through to ensure timely case resolution
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of legal practice experience
- Licensed and in good standing in at least one U.S. state (no specific state or DBA experience required; training on substance will be provided)
- Comfortable and confident with motion practice and administrative filings
- Persistent, organized self-starter capable of managing a high-volume docket without letting files go inactive
- Direct and assertive communication style, able to engage firmly with opposing counsel and back up communications with action
- Strong written communication skills for court filings and correspondence
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in litigation, workers' compensation, insurance defense or claimant work, or administrative law is a plus but not required
