Overview
An established legal practice is seeking experienced attorneys to focus exclusively on case evaluation and investigation within class actions, collective actions, and PAGA matters. This role emphasizes strategic analysis, case and damages assessment, and fact investigation, allowing attorneys to develop deep expertise in these areas without the responsibilities of full-case management.
Responsibilities
- Partner with local trial teams to conduct fact investigation, damages analysis, and case assessment for class, collective, and representative actions, including PAGA matters.
- Draft answers, corporate disclosures, and initial disclosures across various jurisdictions.
- Analyze potential for removal, including damages calculation under the Class Action Fairness Act, and prepare removal documents.
- Prepare comprehensive case evaluations tailored to client and trial team needs, including assessments of wage and hour or other employment policies, claims analysis, data review for exposure analysis, and defenses.
- Provide detailed information and analysis to facilitate smooth transitions into discovery, mediation preparation, brief writing, and subsequent litigation phases.
- Participate in litigation support as needed, including class certification and settlement assistance.
This is a full-time, remote position with a reduced billable hours requirement and no mandatory business travel or business development obligations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of legal experience in wage and hour law and class, collective, and/or representative actions.
- Significant experience with California wage and hour class action and/or PAGA litigation is strongly preferred.
- Excellent academic credentials and substantial litigation experience.
- Ability to develop practical and well-founded defense strategies for class, collective, and representative actions under the Fair Labor Standards Act, California Labor Code (including PAGA), and other applicable state laws.
- Experience working with data analytics teams to develop damages modeling and exposure assessments, including proficiency with Excel.
- Ability to focus on key case aspects and produce work product while conducting investigation and analysis.
- Active bar license in the state of residence; California bar license preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $125,000 to $175,000 annually, dependent on experience and education.
