Overview

This role involves providing proactive, practical, and solution-oriented legal advice to support an organization's open-source mission and commercial objectives. As the second lawyer on the legal team, you will help build a modern, tech-forward legal function. The position covers a range of legal matters including software licensing, SaaS agreements, data privacy, AI, and security.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft, and close various commercial contracts such as software licenses, SaaS agreements, NDAs, and statements of work.
  • Experiment with and implement AI-enabled tools to automate routine legal tasks and improve contract lifecycle management.
  • Serve as the primary legal contact for the sales organization to ensure efficient and responsible deal closures.
  • Assist with corporate governance, internal policy development, and Board of Directors matters, including preparing meeting materials and maintaining corporate records.
  • Collaborate with People Operations on a variety of US and international employment matters.
  • Independently manage the commercial contract queue and lead negotiations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve legal templates, processes, and AI workflows.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with leaders and team members in Sales, Customer Success, People Operations, Product, Engineering, and Finance.
  • Support department strategy by helping set the direction for the legal function and fostering a culture of psychological safety, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Create scalable legal processes to support global growth.
  • Align legal strategies with product and business planning through communication with other teams.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree and membership in good standing of a state bar.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience, preferably with in-house legal or law firm background.
  • Proven expertise drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, including software, SaaS, and professional services agreements.
  • Experience with or strong interest in AI solutions applied to products and legal processes.
  • Business partner mindset with experience in cross-functional collaboration focused on customer experience and company growth.
  • Adaptable and entrepreneurial, comfortable building processes in a small, growing team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for AI and its integration into legal workflows.
  • Experience working in technology or software-related legal roles.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $146,000 to $192,720 USD (base salary, assuming work performed in the United States).
