Overview

This role hires the first in-house Commercial Counsel to support the organization’s commercial contracting needs and help build the foundations of the legal function.

You will partner closely with the GTM team to negotiate agreements with enterprise customers, increasingly becoming the go-to person for legal questions. You will work alongside experienced fractional and specialist outside counsel when needed, while taking ownership of resolving legal issues internally.

Responsibilities

  • Own commercial contracting end-to-end, including:
    • MSAs
    • Order Forms
    • DPAs
    • NDAs
    • Vendor and partnership agreements
  • Partner with GTM to drive complex enterprise deals to completion while balancing risk, speed, and commercial realities
  • Build templates, playbooks, workflows, and automations to support scaling
  • Support broader legal matters across privacy, product, data, employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, IP, and disputes; bring in specialists when needed
  • Take increasing ownership of the legal function as the organization grows

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of legal experience, ideally combining strong law firm training with in-house experience at a high-growth technology company, with a focus on commercial contracting
  • JD from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in the US
  • Significant experience independently negotiating complex enterprise technology, SaaS, and data agreements
  • Excellent legal and commercial judgment, including knowing when to escalate
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly with practical, actionable recommendations
  • Comfortable representing the organization in customer-facing negotiations, building trust with customer legal and procurement teams, and working through difficult issues with minimal friction
  • Thrives with ownership and ambiguity, and enjoys building systems rather than waiting for established processes
  • Interested in using AI and automation to build a modern legal function

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with privacy/data/product counseling
  • Experience with legal ops and automation
  • Broader counseling experience across employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, and IP

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation range: $175K - $250K
  • Unlimited PTO, plus a minimum 20-day vacation policy
  • Flexible scheduling is supported; raw hours may be expected at the current stage, with priority given to productivity and accommodating time outside of work
