Overview
A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking a Commercial Lawyer to join their team. This role involves supporting high-impact legal work that directly contributes to business performance and team success. The position requires collaboration across multiple functions to advance priorities, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable outcomes. Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $152,000 – $210,400 annually
Responsibilities
- Serve as commercial counsel for various vendor and commercial contracts from inception through execution
- Develop a deep understanding of the organization’s products and collaborate with internal teams to support their objectives
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, utilizing templates while identifying when unique structuring is necessary
- Manage deal flow efficiently by triaging and overseeing tickets, facilitating approvals, and closing processes
- Contribute to building and enhancing the commercial legal function by creating scalable playbooks and providing training
Qualifications
- J.D. degree with active state bar membership (New York or California preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in transactional law focusing on technology and commercial contracts
- Proficient in negotiating complex SaaS and technology agreements, preferably within regulated industries
- Strong negotiation skills combined with high emotional intelligence to resolve challenging issues under pressure
- Experience handling privacy and data protection agreements with a collaborative approach
- Proactive problem-solver with a strong sense of ownership in driving deals from start to finish
- High standards for work quality and a desire to work alongside like-minded professionals
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Prior in-house experience at fintech companies or high-impact legal teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance in financial services
- Familiarity with SaaS tools such as Ironclad (contract management) and Zip (workflow optimization)
- Understanding of data security and privacy regulations similar to GDPR or CCPA
- Ability to work cross-functionally with technology, product, and financial teams
- Awareness of AI/ML considerations in legal agreements
- Experience with procurement software and third-party risk management tools like ServiceNow or Ariba
