Overview

This fully remote contract attorney role supports a venture-backed technology company in the artificial intelligence sector. Engagement work is focused on commercial data licensing agreements, including drafting, review, and negotiation, with continuous support needed to handle high-volume requests.

This contract engagement is expected to run approximately three to six months, with the potential for extension or conversion. The schedule is flexible and expected to range from part-time to full-time depending on deal volume.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate data licensing agreements and related commercial contract documents
  • Support real-time contract requests from a sales/revenue team, including direct negotiation with counterparties
  • Advise on and help paper terms covering data rights and usage restrictions, confidentiality, indemnification, and related intellectual property concepts
  • Operate as an on-call commercial lawyer for contract intake and responses, including working in Slack during business hours
  • Manage a high volume of agreements on short turnaround while maintaining quality

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience practicing law, with substantial commercial contracting experience
  • Experience drafting and negotiating data licensing, content licensing, data supply, or similar agreements, including the intellectual property, data rights and usage restrictions, confidentiality, and indemnification provisions that these agreements rely on
  • Demonstrated ability to handle high-volume agreements on short turnaround without sacrificing quality
  • Experience serving as the day-to-day contracts resource for a sales or revenue team, including real-time review requests and direct negotiation with counterparties
  • Comfort working in Slack as the primary channel for intake and response, with fast response times during business hours
  • Ability to work independently and make practical, business-minded judgment calls with minimal supervision in a start-up environment
  • Excellent academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Excellent analytical, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction and in good standing
  • Outstanding professional references

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior in-house legal department experience
  • Technology, data, or other high-growth company experience

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: Annualized pay ranges from $185,000 to $230,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Contract pay is based on multiple factors including work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference.
