Overview

This role involves providing legal support at the intersection of technology, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and business operations for a global semiconductor and AI company. The position requires managing complex investigations, advising on IP and confidentiality matters, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and supporting strategic initiatives with practical legal guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage internal investigations related to intellectual property, confidential information, and insider threats by collaborating with Information Security, HR, and business teams to gather facts, assess risks, and guide resolution.
  • Partner with the Information Security organization on legal and regulatory issues concerning data protection, cybersecurity incident response, insider risk programs, and protection of proprietary technology and trade secrets.
  • Advise engineering, product, and business teams on intellectual property ownership, confidentiality obligations, licensing structures, and technology transfer matters, particularly in semiconductor IP, EDA tools, and AI development.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review agreements involving licensing of copyrighted works, software, and other intellectual property to align with business goals and manage risk.
  • Assess legal considerations for strategic initiatives, partnerships, and emerging technology projects, providing practical guidance to senior stakeholders.
  • Develop policies, procedures, and training programs to protect company assets and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements across a global workforce.
  • Collaborate across Legal, Information Security, HR, Engineering, Product Management, and other functions to provide practical legal support that enables business progress while managing risk thoughtfully.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Six or more years of legal experience with significant involvement in intellectual property matters, including licensing, ownership questions, or protection of proprietary technology.
  • Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to information security, confidential information protection, cybersecurity incident response, and corporate compliance.
  • Proven ability to independently manage complex legal matters, including investigations, IP issues, and cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal issues clearly to both legal and non-legal audiences.
  • Experience advising technology companies, particularly in-house or in roles requiring strategic counseling in dynamic environments, is a strong plus.
  • Experience supporting cybersecurity, privacy, or information protection programs, or conducting sensitive internal investigations, is highly valued.

  • Ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders such as engineers, InfoSec analysts, and HR partners to identify and address legal issues collaboratively.
  • Clear and efficient writing skills for various legal documents and communications.
  • Sound judgment in determining when to escalate issues and when to handle them independently.
  • Ability to remain composed under pressure, especially during fast-moving investigations with evolving facts.
  • Willingness to provide constructive feedback and push back on proposed approaches when legal or practical concerns arise, including in discussions with senior leadership.
  • Commitment to delivering practical, usable legal advice that supports business needs.
