Overview
This role provides legal support to an insurance distribution platform across three divisions, covering legal, regulatory, contract, governance, and operational matters related to specialty distribution insurance operations. Areas of support include programs, wholesale, and specialty business lines.
Reporting to the Chief Counsel, this position partners with business leaders and cross-functional teams across compliance, finance, technology, and other internal groups to deliver sound legal guidance, mitigate risk, and enable responsible business growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Counsel with legal matters supporting specialty distribution insurance operations across wholesale, programs, and specialty divisions.
- Support legal and compliance analysis for strategic initiatives, including new product development, new program launches, cross-border projects, and M&A.
- Draft, review, and negotiate routine and complex contracts, including:
- Insurance distribution agreements
- Producer agreements
- Program administration agreements
- Claims administration agreements
- Fronting agreements
- Vendor agreements
- Non-disclosure agreements
- Related business contracts
- Collaborate across wholesale, programs, and specialty divisions with business and operations, compliance, IT, finance, tax, internal team resources, and leadership teams to provide clear, practical advice.
- Research and monitor applicable insurance laws, regulations, and regulatory developments impacting supported businesses.
- Assist with pre-litigation matters, including claims, disputes, subpoenas, regulatory inquiries, and internal investigations.
- Support corporate governance, entity management, internal policies, ethics, and compliance initiatives as needed.
- Collaborate with internal enterprise partners, including tax, IT, finance, compliance, privacy, and other legal specialties.
- Escalate significant legal, regulatory, or business risk matters to the Chief Counsel or the appropriate Legal Department leader.
Requirements
- Active license to practice law and member in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- At least 7 years of legal experience focused on general corporate and transactional matters.
- Three to five years of in-house experience at an insurance carrier, MGA, MGU, insurance brokerage, wholesale brokerage, or with a law firm advising (re)insurance clients.
- Carrier or MGA experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of US admitted and E&S market regulation.
- Working knowledge of US cybersecurity, privacy, and AI regulation.
- Familiarity with Bermuda, UK and EU (re)insurance regulatory regimes helpful.
- Strong drafting, legal research, analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while appropriately escalating issues to senior legal counsel.
- Ability to partner effectively with business leaders and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, decentralized environment.
- High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range
- $175,000 - $225,000 Annual
Note: The pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on the lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role, taking into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.

- Travel/Project Support: 10–25% as needed for projects, meetings, or visits to supported Profit Centers.
