Overview
This role serves as a legal advisor and strategic leader responsible for designing, executing, and continuously improving a global ethics and compliance program within a multinational operations environment. The position ensures alignment with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and organizational values while supporting business objectives across diverse international markets.
The role operates with a high degree of independence, overseeing global compliance governance, internal investigations, and risk mitigation strategies related to ethics, anti-bribery and anti-corruption (ABAC), global trade compliance, environmental, social & governance (ESG) compliance, and product regulatory compliance. This includes oversight of chemical regulations, product safety, transportation and hazardous materials compliance, and product stewardship requirements across all entities globally, including joint ventures.
Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve the global ethics and compliance program, ensuring a risk-based, scalable framework aligned with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Oversee key compliance program elements such as Code of Conduct, policy governance, ABAC, global trade compliance, ESG compliance, product regulatory compliance, and third-party risk management.
- Design and implement global compliance risk assessments, monitoring, and reporting processes to evaluate program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Stay informed on evolving regulatory, enforcement, and ESG reporting landscapes and advise business leaders on emerging risks.
- Direct global compliance investigations, including ethics hotline operations, case management, and anti-retaliation processes.
- Independently assess allegations of misconduct and lead complex, high-risk internal investigations.
- Review and guide investigation work to ensure consistency and quality.
- Ensure timely documentation, reporting, and closure of investigations, including tracking remediation actions.
- Prepare and deliver compliance reporting and analytics to executive leadership, shareholders, and the Board Audit Committee.
- Support Board Audit Committee activities with compliance updates, investigation summaries, ESG reporting insights, and risk perspectives.
- Lead drafting, review, and enhancement of global ethics and compliance policies, including ESG, environmental compliance, product stewardship, and chemical safety.
- Oversee development and implementation of compliance procedures and workflows.
- Lead global compliance training and communications to promote awareness of legal and ethical requirements.
- Advance a speak-up culture and reinforce non-retaliation principles.
- Manage the annual Conflict of Interest disclosure process.
- Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, Security, Product, Supply Chain, ESG, and Internal Audit teams to identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks.
- Coordinate with regional legal teams and external counsel to provide consistent guidance on employment, ethics, ABAC, export controls, environmental compliance, and product regulatory matters.
- Support compliance aspects of internal and external audits, ESG reporting reviews, and regulatory assessments.
- Advise on cross-border transactions, product distribution, third-party relationships, and market expansion to mitigate compliance risks.
- Support and mature third-party risk management programs, including due diligence and monitoring.
- Provide legal oversight on global product regulatory compliance, including chemical regulations, product safety, and product stewardship.
- Support compliance with environmental and ESG-related regulations and reporting frameworks.
- Advise on compliance with global chemical regulatory frameworks and transportation/hazardous materials regulations.
- Partner with Product, Supply Chain, and ESG teams to ensure compliant product lifecycle management.
- Monitor regulatory developments related to environmental, health, safety, and product compliance.
- Monitor investigation trends and compliance metrics to identify systemic issues and implement preventative solutions.
- Lead or support enterprise compliance initiatives including ESG integration, regulatory readiness, risk assessments, and audits.
- Ensure effective follow-up on corrective and disciplinary actions.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law.
- 5–8 years of experience in ethics & compliance, internal investigations, regulatory law, ESG compliance, or related legal roles within a global organization.
- Expertise in compliance program management including ABAC, global trade, ESG compliance, and product regulatory frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of environmental and product-related regulatory regimes such as GHS, DOT hazardous materials regulations, and global product stewardship standards.
- Proven ability to lead complex, sensitive internal investigations and provide clear, risk-based recommendations.
- Experience interacting with executive leadership and Board-level stakeholders, including preparation of formal reports and presentations.
- Experience managing outside counsel and working across multiple jurisdictions.
- Exceptional analytical, judgment, and problem-solving skills with the ability to operate independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal and regulatory concepts to non-legal audiences.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professional ethics.
- Ability to work primarily in an office-based or hybrid environment with extended computer use.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, global environment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10–20% to support global investigations, training, audits, and business engagement.
- Availability outside standard business hours may be required to support global operations and urgent compliance matters.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $120,000 to $175,000 annually, based on experience.
- Bonus eligibility.
Location
- Headquarters located in Lexington, KY.
- Preference for local candidates willing to work in-office three days per week.
