Overview
A leading organization in the Retail & Consumer Goods sector is seeking a Counsel for Global Ethics and Compliance. This role involves providing business-aligned legal guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. The position requires partnering with leaders, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex legal and compliance issues into practical recommendations. The role supports responsible execution, improved decision-making, and sustainable growth within a consumer-facing environment.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $129,000 – $177,300 annually
Responsibilities
- Manage the global ethics and compliance program on a daily basis
- Coordinate governance structures and compliance-related policies
- Identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Oversee compliance investigations and enhance reporting protocols
- Provide legal oversight of third-party relationships and compliance initiatives
- Lead ethics training and internal engagement campaigns
- Advise on compliance topics including anti-corruption and trade sanctions
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school with active Bar standing
- 6-8 years of relevant experience at a law firm or publicly traded company
- Familiarity with compliance-related legal areas such as anti-corruption and trade sanctions
- Ability to simplify complex legal concepts for business stakeholders
- High level of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage diverse teams
- Global perspective with proven ability to collaborate virtually across time zones
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with whistleblowing policies
- Compliance certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or equivalent
- Familiarity with ethics and compliance technology platforms
- Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Experience using data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) for compliance data and risk assessments
- Knowledge of document management systems for handling policies, procedures, and compliance records
