Overview
A global technology company is seeking a collaborative and pragmatic attorney with substantial experience specializing in trademark and copyright legal practice. This role reports to the Lead Counsel for trademark, brand protection, copyright, and domain names, and involves managing a broad range of issues related to intellectual property.
Responsibilities
- Handle escalated notice and takedown cases related to user-generated content on the platform; proactively manage risk, identify patterns and opportunities to improve workflows, and support the team through quality control, training, and process development
- Manage ongoing prosecution and maintenance of global trademark, domain name, and copyright portfolios for the company and its acquired brands
- Manage a docket of trademark enforcement and intellectual property dispute matters, including direct correspondence with third parties misusing company marks and negotiating dispute resolutions
- Advise internal partners on legal risks and viability of proposed trademarks and domain names, including conducting trademark searches and providing guidance on use and registration
- Collaborate with a fast-paced, high-performing team on intellectual property strategy and program management
- Proactively manage and audit trademark and domain name portfolios, aligning them with business objectives in collaboration with internal stakeholders
- Consult and partner with marketing, product, and commercial counsel on trademark, copyright, and right of publicity issues
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a minimum of five (5) years of legal practice, including substantial experience with trademark, copyright, domain name, and brand protection counseling
- Relevant in-house experience with leading global technology companies is a plus
- Strong working knowledge of the platform, evolving product lines, and competitive landscape
- Experience with intellectual property platform liability issues, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), and the Digital Services Act (DSA), either in litigation or advisory contexts
- Demonstrated ability to execute trademark, copyright, domain name, and brand protection strategies and workflows, and to identify opportunities for process improvement
- Experience advising on trademark clearance, prosecution, and enforcement for a global company
- Excellent communication and listening skills; highly collaborative team player
- Ability to deliver timely, accurate, thorough, and concise legal analysis
- Capacity to develop realistic assessments of legal risks and provide clear, pragmatic, business-oriented advice
- Proven ability to perform beyond expectations in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, including multitasking and effective prioritization
- High level of integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to grow
- Organized and detail-oriented
- Member in good standing of a state bar
Compensation & Benefits
- Base pay range: $196,000 to $230,000 USD
- Eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and employee travel credits
Location
- This position is US - Remote Eligible
- Occasional work at an office or attendance at offsites may be required, as agreed with management
