Overview
This role involves leading the Product Counsel function to support rapid, responsible product innovation in an AI-driven environment. The legal team partners closely with R&D and product leaders to address emerging legal and regulatory questions across AI/ML, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
Flexible work location: employees can work in an office, from home, or a combination of both. Hiring is available in any country where the employer has a legal entity.
Responsibilities
- Advise product and engineering teams on emerging, first-impression legal and regulatory issues, with a focus on AI/ML technologies, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
- Apply a generalist product counseling approach to pivot across products, technical stacks, and subject areas as business priorities evolve.
- Create an “AI era” playbook by partnering cross-functionally to develop repeatable frameworks, launch checklists, and scalable legal guardrails that help R&D ship AI features with velocity and confidence.
- Serve as the legal front door for product initiatives, collaborating with Legal SMEs (Privacy, IP, Commercial, Regulatory) to provide cohesive, business-first guidance.
- Mature the Product Counsel function by bringing new ideas, experimenting with ways of working, and leveraging modern technology and async tools to scale impact.
Requirements
- 8+ years of legal experience counseling software products, ideally in the B2B Enterprise SaaS space, supporting fast-moving Product and Engineering teams.
- Required: Juris Doctor, with a license to practice law in your jurisdiction.
- Experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments.
- Strong generalist product counseling capabilities, including the ability to quickly understand unfamiliar product surfaces, technical architectures, and business models.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and novel issues, including evaluating emerging AI, data, IP, regulatory, and platform questions without a clear playbook.
- Demonstrated agility to engage with complex technical architectures, synthesize input across legal disciplines, and adapt to new product surfaces.
- Ability to simplify guidance for Product teams (no unnecessary legalese), with strong writing skills suited to an async environment.
- Comfort using technology to do the work.
- Enthusiasm for building processes and artifacts from scratch, with fluency working asynchronously and collaborating via modern team tooling.
- Bonus: Familiarity with the employer’s tools.
Compensation & Benefits
The employer designs equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs and sets base pay within a geographic range based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
- United States base pay ranges (new hires):
- Zone A: $229,500 - $299,625
- Zone B: $206,550 - $269,663
- Zone C: $190,485 - $248,689
This role may be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

- United States: base pay is determined by three geographic pay zones (Zone A, Zone B, Zone C). Confirm the zone for your specific location with your recruiter.
