Overview
This role supports product and engineering teams by advising on emerging legal and regulatory issues, with a focus on AI/ML, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures. The employer offers flexibility in where work is performed, including office, remote, or a combination of both. Hiring may be available in any country where the organization has a legal entity.
Responsibilities
- Counsel on emerging legal and regulatory issues: Advise product and engineering teams on first-impression legal and regulatory challenges, especially across AI/ML technologies, data governance, intellectual property, and platform architectures.
- Apply generalist product counseling skills: Pivot comfortably across products, technical stacks, and subject areas as business priorities evolve.
- Develop an “AI era” playbook: Partner with cross-functional teams to design repeatable frameworks, launch checklists, and scalable legal guardrails that help R&D teams ship AI features with velocity and confidence.
- Serve as the legal hub for product initiatives: Act as the primary legal partner and “front door” for product initiatives, collaborating closely with Legal SMEs (Privacy, IP, Commercial, Regulatory) to deliver cohesive, business-first guidance.
- Mature the Product Counsel function: Contribute new ideas and experiment with ways of working to scale impact, including leveraging modern technology and async tools.
Requirements
- 8+ years of legal experience counseling software products, ideally in the B2B Enterprise SaaS space, with experience supporting fast-moving Product and Engineering teams.
- Juris Doctor (JD) and a license to practice law in your jurisdiction.
- Experience in both law firm and in-house legal team environments.
- Strong generalist product counseling ability, including quickly understanding unfamiliar product surfaces, technical architectures, and business models.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and novel issues, including evaluating emerging AI, data, IP, regulatory, and platform questions where a clear playbook may not exist.
- Agility to dive into complex technical architectures, synthesize inputs across multiple legal disciplines, and adapt quickly to unfamiliar product surfaces.
- Simplifier mindset (clear, non-legalese communication for product teams), with strong writing skills suited to an async environment.
- Comfort using technology to complete work.
- Ability to build processes and artifacts from scratch, with fluency collaborating asynchronously and using modern team tooling.

Compensation & Benefits
Pay ranges (United States)
This role has three geographic pay zones in the United States. Current base pay ranges for new hires are:
- Zone A: $229,500 - $299,625
- Zone B: $206,550 - $269,663
- Zone C: $190,485 - $248,689
Base pay is set within the range based on skills, knowledge, and experience.
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.
