Overview
A clinical-stage biotechnology company founded in 2022 is seeking a Director, Patent Attorney to join their intellectual property team. The organization focuses on developing novel biologics targeting immunology and inflammation (I&I) markets, with antibody programs designed to improve efficacy and dosing. Their lead program is being developed for atopic dermatitis and asthma. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to patent strategy and protection efforts.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications, including drafting applications and responses to Office Actions before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Coordinate global patent filing and prosecution strategies and instruct foreign counsel
- Collaborate with scientific and technical teams to identify patenting opportunities and convert innovations into patent applications
- Conduct patent landscape analyses and provide guidance to stakeholders
- Perform patentability assessments and communicate findings
- Conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, identify potential risks, and assist with risk mitigation
- Communicate patent-related information clearly across functions
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and membership in a state bar
- Registration as a patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a patent attorney in biotech or pharmaceutical industry, preferably with both law firm and in-house experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and take initiative
- Creative and strategic thinking abilities
- Effective collaboration skills with internal teams and external counsel
- Proficiency with SharePoint and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint)
- Willingness to travel up to 10%, including mandatory in-person attendance at biannual all-hands meetings
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $245,000 to $275,000, dependent on experience, education, and location
