Overview
An energy technology company specializing in fuel-flexible, low-emissions local power solutions is seeking an experienced legal or regulatory professional to lead its strategy on environmental, energy, and regulatory matters. The organization has commercial operations and advanced development projects serving Fortune 500 companies, data centers, and utilities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead regulatory legal strategy to support commercialization, manufacturing expansion, project deployment, and market growth.
- Identify and mitigate regulatory risks and influence emerging policy developments.
- Advise on state and federal environmental laws and regulatory compliance related to manufacturing operations, including U.S. EPA regulations, air quality, hazardous materials, waste, and permitting.
- Provide legal support for air permitting and environmental approvals for manufacturing facilities and customer deployments.
- Lead legal strategy on product regulatory requirements, certifications, emissions standards, and evolving regulatory frameworks such as NERC.
- Advise on utility regulation, interconnection requirements, tariffs, and energy market rules affecting distributed generation projects.
- Support project development and siting by identifying regulatory risks and permitting requirements.
- Monitor and interpret federal, state, and local legislation, regulations, and policy developments affecting distributed energy resources; advise business leaders on legal implications.
- Serve as legal lead on Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC), domestic content, and other supply chain regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with Government Affairs on legislative and regulatory advocacy and engagement with agencies, policymakers, and industry organizations.
- Manage outside counsel and consultants as needed.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree preferred with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
- 15+ years of legal experience for Director level; 20+ years for Senior Director level, including significant experience advising on environmental, energy, utility, or regulatory law.
- Strong knowledge of environmental permitting, energy regulation, and administrative law.
- Familiarity with the Inflation Reduction Act, including Investment Tax Credit (ITC), Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC), and domestic content requirements.
- Experience advising technology, manufacturing, infrastructure, or energy companies preferred.
- Excellent judgment, business acumen, and ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation is based on an internal estimate and may be adjusted in the future. Salary offers generally fall within a defined base pay range depending on factors such as location, relevant experience, education, skills, and expertise. New hires typically start within the base pay range with opportunities for pay increases over time based on skill and competency development.
