Overview
A rapidly growing, global, commercial-stage biopharmaceutical organization focused on developing and commercializing innovative molecularly targeted and immuno-oncology drugs for cancer treatment is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel. This remote position supports research and development (R&D), business development, and commercialization efforts related to biologics products. The role reports to the head of small molecule IP.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a strong intellectual property portfolio supporting R&D, manufacturing, and commercialization of biologics products
- Identify patentable inventions and draft and prosecute patent applications
- Conduct patent and prior art searches, competitive landscape analyses, patentability assessments, and freedom to operate analyses
- Support corporate development, business development, and research collaborations, including due diligence assessments, contract drafting and negotiation, and alliance management
- Monitor patent trends and case law developments in major markets and adjust IP strategies accordingly
- Provide litigation support, including validity and non-infringement analyses
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited U.S. law school
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and at least one state bar
- Advanced degree in chemistry or a related field; Ph.D. preferred
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in biopharmaceutical intellectual property practice
- Deep understanding of global biopharmaceutical patent law, regulatory data protection, regulations, and best practices in the U.S. and other major markets
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry with strong knowledge of drug discovery, development, manufacturing, and commercialization of biologics, small molecules, and other drug types preferred
- Proven track record in drafting patent applications and responses to patent office actions, and in patent portfolio development
- Ability to collaborate effectively and work independently, managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with professionalism
- Strong skills in interpreting complex laws and regulations and providing practical, business-oriented legal counsel
- Ability to handle confidential and proprietary information with discretion and judgment
- Self-motivated, reliable, responsive, and flexible to accept new responsibilities as needed
Education
- Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. law school
- Admission to USPTO and at least one state bar
- Advanced degree in Chemistry or related field; Ph.D. preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position does not have managerial responsibilities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $196,200 to $256,200 annually
- Compensation packages are determined based on job-related skills, experience, certifications, education, training, and work location
