Overview
This role is for an Energy Regulatory Attorney working as a contractor in a remote capacity. The position involves applying legal expertise in energy regulation to support the training of next-generation AI systems by providing high-quality, real-world input. No prior AI experience is necessary; domain knowledge in energy regulatory law is the key requirement.
Responsibilities
- Provide final legal review and approval of site control packages and interconnection compliance documents.
- Resolve escalated document disputes identified by Tier 1 reviewers.
- Evaluate project filings for compliance with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regulations and PJM Interconnection requirements.
- Review permitting submissions related to utility-scale transmission and generation projects.
- Prepare structured legal opinions and findings in standardized formats for client delivery.
Requirements
- Active bar membership with current or recent practice in energy regulatory or infrastructure law.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience.
- Direct experience with PJM Interconnection processes, including site control requirements and interconnection queue compliance.
- Working knowledge of FERC regulations applicable to transmission and generation interconnection.
- Based on the East Coast with a legal practice focused on the East Coast region.
- Professional background at a law firm, utility, independent power producer (IPP), or federal energy regulatory agency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience serving as lead or senior counsel on PJM interconnection matters.
- Prior work experience with transmission developers, independent system operators (ISOs), or FERC.
- Familiarity with permitting processes for utility-scale solar, wind, or transmission projects in the eastern United States.
