Overview

This role involves providing specialized legal guidance to support compliance with global environmental regulations and enhance environmental management systems. The position requires expertise in at least one core environmental regulatory area—water, air, or waste—and the ability to develop knowledge across others. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, business leadership, environmental professionals, and external authorities is essential to meet regulatory, operational, and strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on federal, state, local, and international environmental regulations related to water, air, or hazardous and solid waste management, including laws such as the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, CERCLA/SARA, and EPCRA.
  • Support compliance initiatives through legal reviews, regulatory obligation assessments, interpretation of environmental requirements, and compliance strategy advice.
  • Collaborate with global colleagues to address environmental compliance across international facilities.
  • Provide legal guidance on contaminated site investigations, remediation projects, and related regulatory processes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing environmental compliance programs, risk assessments, audit activities, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in environmental due diligence during acquisitions and support post-closing integration efforts.
  • Support environmental aspects of real estate transactions, including evaluating potential liabilities and advising on regulatory obligations.
  • Contribute to corporate environmental strategy by assessing regulatory trends and advising on long-term compliance planning.
  • Develop training and communication materials to enhance environmental compliance awareness across the organization.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree completed and verified prior to start.
  • Membership in a United States bar in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Science completed and verified prior to start.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of environmental regulatory counseling experience in private, public, or government settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineering or technical degree.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in or with industry, particularly manufacturing.
  • Experience with environmental compliance programs.
  • Strong academic background.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent writing skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected compensation range: $221,591 - $270,834 (base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible).
  • Compensation varies based on relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and experience.

Location

  • Remote work possible for candidates located more than 50 miles from the global headquarters in Maplewood, MN.
  • Candidates within commuting distance to Maplewood, MN, are expected to work on-site at least four days per week.

  • Travel may include up to 10% domestic and international.
