Overview
A forward-thinking family law and property litigation firm is seeking an experienced legal assistant to join their team. This role involves working directly with the owner, attorneys, and other staff members to support the team and assist clients through emotionally challenging legal processes. The firm is experiencing aggressive growth and requires a paralegal who can manage a caseload independently and contribute immediately.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and manage the discovery process, including drafting discovery requests, responses, and correspondence
- Draft subpoenas, motions, and pleadings
- Follow up with clients to obtain discovery materials and address discovery needs
- Collaborate with attorneys to ensure all necessary information is gathered for case success
- Assist in developing checklists and workflow systems
- Coordinate with legal assistants to request and calendar motion hearings
- Prepare case documents, motion and trial exhibits, and trial notebooks
- Maintain accurate billing records
- Perform filings, including electronic filing in state and federal courts
- Conduct legal research
- Ensure case documents are properly maintained in electronic databases and client files
- Regularly confer with attorneys and legal assistants to efficiently manage cases
Requirements
- Robust experience in family law
- Excellent phone etiquette and a positive demeanor
- Exceptional document preparation skills with strong attention to detail
- Proficiency with calendars, email, spreadsheets, word processing, case management software (e.g., MyCase), and internet research
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Willingness to perform routine tasks such as scanning and copying
- Strong problem-solving skills and a solution-oriented mindset

Compensation & Benefits
- Full-time position requiring 40 hours per week
- Opportunity to work from home
- Starting pay of $26.44 per hour (equivalent to $55,000 annually) during the first 90 days
- Potential for pay increase after the initial period
- Annual salary range: $55,000 - $76,000
- Bonus compensation opportunities based on demonstrated profitability
