Overview
This role is for a Virginia family law attorney to handle high-impact, low-conflict cases with a strong emphasis on negotiation and client-focused resolution.
The work is primarily remote. To cover in-person court appearances as needed, you must be located in Northern Virginia.
Minimum requirement: Must be an active member of the Virginia State Bar in good standing to be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead client consultations with empathy and clarity to understand and prioritize client needs and goals
- Develop and execute strategic case plans focused on negotiation and resolution
- Handle divorce, custody, visitation, support, enforcement, and modifications to existing orders
- Lead negotiations and settlement strategy, treating court as a last resort
- Maintain proactive, solution-oriented communication with opposing counsel
- Review, draft, and prepare legal documents with precision and alignment to client objectives
- Collaborate closely with experienced paralegals and administrative staff to ensure seamless case management and client communication
- Represent clients in court proceedings when necessary, maintaining professionalism and composure
- Stay informed on the latest family law developments and integrate this knowledge into client advice and options
Requirements
- Active membership in the Virginia State Bar in good standing (required)
- Minimum 3 years of Virginia family law experience
- Experience handling a range of family law matters, including divorce, custody, visitation, support, enforcement, and modifications to existing orders
- Demonstrated strength in negotiation and settlement strategy
- Strong legal research, drafting, and written communication skills
- Clear, confident verbal communication with clients and opposing counsel
- Client-centered approach with the ability to guide clients toward long-term decisions
- Thrives in a remote environment with strong self-organization and the ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Mediation training or collaborative law certification
Compensation & Benefits
- $140,000 - $205,000 annually (with a flexible salary structure; you choose your plan)
