Overview

A Miami-based law firm is seeking a Family Attorney to assist clients with sensitive legal issues related to family law. The role involves handling matters such as child custody, child abuse, domestic violence, prenuptial agreements, divorce, alimony, child support, and real estate. The ideal candidate will have strong negotiation and oral advocacy skills, especially in stressful and emotional situations, and a proven track record of success.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients effectively at court hearings as needed
  • Manage division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings
  • Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, analyzing situations, and developing strategic plans
  • Collaborate with paralegals and senior partners to ensure efficient progress through civil litigation
  • Organize and maintain up-to-date client files
  • Work in a hybrid model based in the Miami office, with periodic in-person days and travel as required
  • Handle high-conflict divorce proceedings, including motion practice, discovery, mediation, and evidentiary hearings
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments and design litigation and settlement strategies aligned with client objectives
  • Deliver clear oral arguments and principled negotiation at hearings, mediations, and conferences
  • Draft and perfect pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, judgments, proposed orders, and related contracts
  • Manage equitable distribution of marital assets, including real property, business interests, and retirement accounts, engaging financial and valuation experts as needed
  • Maintain meticulous file management and deadline control, ensuring compliance with Florida Family Law Rules of Procedure, local rules, and e-filing/e-service protocols
  • Provide precise legal counsel and draft marital property, prenuptial, and postnuptial agreements reflecting client goals and Florida law
  • Perform targeted legal research and develop work plans anticipating risks, evidentiary needs, and settlement opportunities
  • Communicate proactively and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnel to maintain case progress and clear expectations

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Active member in good standing of the Florida Bar
  • Minimum 4 years of family law litigation experience, including contested and uncontested matters
  • Proven success advocating in trials, mediations, and evidentiary hearings
  • Experience handling real estate issues intersecting with family law (e.g., title, homestead, QDROs, equity distribution)
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, especially in high-stress and emotional situations
  • Ability to manage a heavy caseload with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines
  • Strong legal research and writing skills with meticulous attention to detail and file management
  • Familiarity with Florida Family Law Rules of Procedure, local rules, and e-filing/e-service protocols
  • Prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred
  • ABA membership and Spanish proficiency are strong pluses

Location
