Overview
The organization is building a healthcare clearinghouse with an API-accessible (“headless”) platform that supports real-time and batch EDI processes. This role will lead the legal function as the business scales, navigating regulatory uncertainty and shaping both defensive and offensive legal strategies across product, commercial, and corporate needs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute regulatory and legal strategy to deepen relationships with payers, including navigating enforcement and compliance requirements and managing relationship dynamics with organizations that control access to the market.
- Lead competitive and enforcement matters, defending and advancing the organization’s interests where legal strategy directly affects market outcomes.
- Build the legal framework for novel data products operating in complex regulatory areas, turning uncertainty into defensible product strategy.
- Use legal and regulatory expertise to identify growth opportunities, accelerate deals, and remove legal or regulatory blockers.
- Own end-to-end legal for a fast-growing company, including:
- Commercial agreements and disputes
- Compliance
- Intellectual property
- Employment
- Corporate governance
- Fundraising
- Partner directly with the CEO and board on strategic decisions where legal and regulatory considerations shape business direction.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant experience across law firms and fast-paced in-house roles.
- Significant in-house experience, including managing litigations and other disputes, ideally in a senior legal role at a high-growth company.
- Deep healthcare experience strongly preferred, including lived experience navigating the regulatory and commercial complexity of healthcare infrastructure, payers, providers, or health tech. Experience in another heavily regulated, high-complexity industry (e.g., financial services, payments, insurance) will also be considered.
- Generalist mindset capable of solving problems across domains, not only within a single specialty; when faced with unfamiliar topics, ability to work through issues rather than defaulting to outsourcing.
- Ability to operate quickly in a fast-moving environment.
- Commercial and business-oriented approach; think like a business leader applying legal expertise to support company strategy.
- JD and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
