General Counsel

Overview

A growth-stage healthtech company focused on reimagining mental health care delivery is seeking a Fractional General Counsel. This remote, part-time role (10-20 hours per week) offers compensation between $150 and $200 per hour, with equity offered. The position is open to candidates located in the USA only.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic legal guidance aligned with business objectives and growth plans.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare laws, data privacy regulations, telehealth requirements, and corporate governance standards.
• Identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
• Advise executive leadership on risk management and emerging regulatory developments.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial agreements including vendor, partnership, employment, contractor, Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), and licensing/technology agreements.
• Provide counsel on physician practice operations, corporate practice of medicine, HIPAA compliance, telehealth regulations, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and other healthcare regulatory matters.
• Support audits, compliance initiatives, and policy development.
• Advise on corporate governance, regulatory obligations, and support board meetings and governance documentation.
• Manage legal disputes, claims, and investigations; coordinate with outside counsel on litigation and specialized legal matters.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
• Minimum 10 years of legal experience with significant expertise in healthcare law and physician group practices.
• Extensive experience in healthcare regulatory compliance, including HIPAA, telehealth laws, corporate governance, employment law, and commercial contracting.
• Proven ability to provide strategic legal counsel in healthcare settings.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and business judgment skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with executive leadership.
• High ethical standards and commitment to compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as General Counsel, Fractional General Counsel, or senior in-house healthcare counsel.
• Experience supporting high-growth healthcare organizations or digital health companies.

Compensation & Benefits

• Hourly rate: $150 - $200
