Overview
An experienced intellectual property professional is sought for the role of Global IP Counsel. This position involves supporting global teams to protect and maximize the value of an innovation pipeline at the intersection of science, innovation, and commercial strategy. The role provides expert in-house leadership across intellectual property and patent matters, shaping and executing a global IP strategy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a global intellectual property strategy aligned with innovation and commercial objectives
- Lead patent prosecution strategy, including conducting landscape analysis and freedom-to-operate searches
- Manage global patent and trademark portfolios, including enforcement and litigation matters
- Provide intellectual property advice on technology transfer, licensing, and research and development collaboration agreements
- Support mergers and acquisitions activity through IP due diligence and transactional guidance
- Collaborate with scientists, innovation teams, and regional legal teams to deliver practical advice
- Manage and oversee external counsel to ensure quality and value
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer with admission to practice in a relevant jurisdiction
- Registered Patent Attorney
- Background in science, preferably agriculture, plant science, chemistry, biotechnology, or a related discipline
- Strong experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and global portfolio management
- Experience with intellectual property litigation and dispute management
- Proven transactional experience across licensing, technology transfer, and mergers and acquisitions
- Industry experience preferred in agriculture, life sciences, chemical, or biotechnology sectors
- Ability to translate complex intellectual property matters into clear commercial advice
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to operate effectively in a global environment
