Overview
A legal services organization specializing in default legal services for mortgage servicers, banks, investors, and financial institutions is seeking a Paralegal to provide essential legal support to attorneys and the legal team. This role involves drafting pleadings, managing case calendars, preparing for hearings, overseeing case progression, and communicating with clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Review files related to Extensions, Dismissals, Probate matters, Death Certificates, and Special Administrator/Personal Representative Defendant Substitutions.
- Draft court pleadings concerning Extensions, Trial Scheduling, Dismissals, Probate, Death Certificates, and Special Administrator/Personal Representative Substitutions.
- Prepare and file Land Court Petitions noting death as needed.
- Collaborate with the assigned Probate Attorney to manage Formal and Informal Probate matters.
- Manage calendaring of hearings, deadlines, and key dates for assigned tasks.
- Coordinate publication requirements and payments for Probate-related notices and orders.
- Assist the Litigation Paralegal with contested matters, including drafting pleadings and managing litigation calendars.
- Participate in cross-training for Extensions and Trial Scheduling and transition responsibilities as tasks are reassigned.
- Begin training on additional paralegal duties involving drafting and preparing various court motions and orders.
- Request documents from courts and communicate with court personnel as directed.
- Obtain records from the Bureau of Conveyances, Department of Health, and other state or federal agencies on a case-by-case basis.
- Submit requests for additional fees when necessary.
- Communicate professionally and timely with clients via phone, email, and client portals.
- Monitor client portals and tracking pages daily, updating information as appropriate.
- Support related tasks and perform other duties as assigned to contribute to team success.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in foreclosure or mortgage-servicing operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer-service skills including professionalism and responsiveness.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Access; ability to learn additional technology platforms.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Adaptability to changing client expectations, internal processes, and industry requirements.
