Overview
This role involves leading Legal Engineering, shaping how legal judgment works inside an AI product. Legal Engineering sits at the center of the platform: it turns legal requirements and customer guidance into rules the AI can apply reliably, and it evaluates whether those rules perform well in practice.
The position is responsible for taking the function to the next level—sharpening methods, strengthening the quality loop, and scaling legal frameworks across a growing enterprise customer base.
Responsibilities
- Lead Legal Engineering by setting the function’s direction, priorities, and standards; grow the team as the organization scales.
- Own the platform’s legal logic, translating legal and regulatory requirements into reliable, scalable AI review across the customer base.
- Represent the organization externally through speaking, writing, events, and other thought leadership on AI, legal, and compliance.
- Work directly with customer legal and compliance teams, including joining customer calls to understand specific content analysis requirements and translating them into how the AI evaluates content.
- Enable Implementation and Customer Success by providing customer-facing teams with legal and compliance context to implement the platform effectively, support customers, and know when to escalate questions.
- Drive AI quality by measuring and continuously improving the accuracy and reliability of the AI review.
- Keep legal logic current by maintaining pace with changing regulations, customer guidance, and best practices.
- Represent legal and compliance in product development by partnering with Product to ensure the platform reflects how legal and compliance teams actually work.
- Raise the bar by establishing standards and best practices to keep legal work consistent, high quality, and scalable.
- Support the in-house legal function by collaborating on company legal matters, including reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
Requirements
- JD and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- 5+ years of legal experience, including significant work in advertising and marketing law, consumer protection, or regulatory compliance, at a law firm, in-house, or at a regulator
- Hands-on experience reviewing marketing and advertising materials for claims, disclosures, and substantiation
- Working knowledge of relevant frameworks, such as FTC advertising and endorsement guidance, UDAP/UDAAP, and financial-services marketing rules (e.g., FINRA 2210, the SEC Marketing Rule, Reg Z/DD)
- Real experience using AI in legal work, with readiness to walk through specific tools, workflows, and results during interviews
- A strong analytical and writing record; ability to explain complex legal reasoning in structured, plain language
- Experience leading people or cross-functional initiatives
