Head of Legal

Overview

A healthcare technology organization is seeking a founding Head of Legal to lead and build the legal function during a critical growth phase. This role involves providing legal and compliance leadership across commercial, corporate, and healthcare regulatory matters to support scaling efforts and ensure responsible operations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on diverse legal issues to enable swift and thoughtful business decisions
• Lead commercial legal activities including drafting and negotiating customer, vendor, and partner agreements
• Develop scalable legal and compliance processes that facilitate growth while minimizing friction
• Manage key healthcare regulatory and compliance areas
• Design legal and compliance infrastructure related to insurance billing operations
• Support privacy and information security initiatives connected to customer requirements, due diligence, and financing
• Assist with equity and debt financings and oversee broader corporate legal matters
• Oversee ongoing legal responsibilities including employment, intellectual property, governance, and tax
• Define and establish the structure and standards of the in-house legal function

Requirements

• Early career experience at a top-tier law firm, preferably in corporate law
• Extensive healthcare legal experience, either advising healthtech companies or working in-house at healthcare or healthtech organizations
• Practical, business-oriented approach to legal challenges
• Strong judgment with the ability to balance risk, speed, and company priorities
• Ability to work independently and manage complex legal matters from inception to resolution
• Experience managing outside counsel and driving key projects with minimal supervision
• Enthusiasm for building legal systems, processes, and functions from the ground up

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as an early legal hire at a startup or rapidly scaling company
• Familiarity with insurance billing, healthcare regulatory frameworks, and approval processes
• Experience supporting company growth through new markets, products, or operational complexity
