Overview
A leading organization in the Telecommunications & Hardware sector is seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel to provide business-aligned legal guidance focused on governance, compliance, and operational risk management. This role involves partnering with leadership, compliance stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate complex intellectual property issues into practical recommendations that support responsible execution, improved decision-making, and sustainable growth.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $120,000 – $180,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a global intellectual property strategy aligned with organizational goals
- Manage patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret portfolios
- Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to identify patentable inventions
- Oversee preparation, filing, and prosecution of patent applications worldwide
- Conduct patentability, freedom-to-operate, and infringement analyses
- Provide advice on trademark usage and brand protection strategies
- Draft and negotiate a variety of intellectual property-related agreements
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admission to at least one state bar and in good standing
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- 5 to 10 years of experience in intellectual property law, with some in-house experience preferred
- Strong background in patent prosecution and portfolio management
Preferred Skills and Experience
- USPTO registration
- Experience with patent prosecution and trademark management
- Knowledge of open-source software licensing
- Experience drafting and negotiating IP agreements
- Management of global trademark portfolios
- Familiarity with AI tools
- Background in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Computer Science
- Expertise in IP strategy development, patentability and freedom-to-operate analyses
- Experience managing patent litigation
- Collaboration with R&D teams and managing invention disclosure processes
- Development of trade secret protection policies and internal IP training programs
