Overview
This role involves working as an IP Law Expert on a contract basis, providing expertise in intellectual property law to support AI research initiatives. The position is remote and offers compensation between $100 and $120 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Develop a realistic digital workspace centered on commonly used Drive folders, including client memos, patent and trademark drafts, prior-art search results, opinion letters, licensing agreements, docket printouts, and email threads.
- Design multi-step tasks that reflect real workflows, structured around end-to-end client engagements involving multiple applications, files, and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other IP attorneys to design environments, define task scope, and review scenarios to ensure realism and rigor.
- Work asynchronously with research teams to refine task designs and evaluation criteria for IP-law agent benchmarks.
- Contribute to advanced AI research and benchmarking efforts, influencing how leading labs train and evaluate next-generation AI systems.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar admission.
- USPTO registration for patent practitioners.
- Minimum of 3 years of full-time intellectual property experience at an AmLaw 100/200 firm or a Fortune 500 in-house IP team.
- Regular use of Westlaw or LexisNexis, HotDocs or Contract Express, and Relativity in daily work.
- Strong analytical thinking and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in patent prosecution, trademark portfolio management, IP litigation, or licensing.
- Background in trade-secret and IP enforcement strategy.
Compensation & Legal
- Initial compensation is hourly, with potential transition to payment based on throughput of quality work.
