Overview

The organization is seeking a sharp, dependable Junior Attorney for a high-impact role supporting attorneys on a plaintiff’s side employment litigation practice. This position is fully remote and is built for rapid skill-building through close collaboration across multiple attorneys handling a high volume of employment matters.

This role does not involve carrying an individual caseload. Instead, the Junior Attorney will cover initial court and arbitration appearances, assist with deposition work, and review work product to help ensure matters stay on track.

Responsibilities

Court & Arbitration Appearances

  • Stand in for responsible attorneys at hearings and conferences in California state court and arbitration, appearing prepared and confident.
  • Attend and support:
    • Case Management Conferences (CMCs), Trial Setting Conferences, and Status Conferences
    • Informal Discovery Conferences (IDCs) and Orders to Show Cause (e.g., re: dismissal, sanctions, or failure to file proof of service)
    • Arbitration Management, Pre-Arbitration, and Preliminary Arbitration Conferences before retired judges and arbitrators
  • Handle deposition-related appearances, including taking and defending PMQ/PMK depositions and party depositions, and participate in ex parte hearings as needed.
  • Prepare appearance outlines, review the case file, and report results promptly after each appearance.

Work Product Review

  • Serve as a trusted second set of eyes on work product prepared by shared services and paralegal teams, catching issues before they reach attorneys or opposing counsel.
  • Review complaints and amended complaints for accuracy, strategy, and completeness.
  • Review propounded discovery (interrogatories, RFPs, RFAs) before it goes out, and analyze defendants’ discovery responses for sufficiency, completeness, and strategic opportunities.
  • Review Meet & Confer letters and other litigation documents with attention to strategy and detail.
  • Flag findings clearly to the responsible attorney so matters keep moving with confidence.

Motion Support

  • Assist attorneys with motion work as needed, including research, drafting, and revision (including motions to compel and related discovery motions).
  • Use AI-powered tools and dashboards to prioritize review work, track deadlines, and keep pace with a high volume of matters.

Requirements

  • California Bar admission: licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar.
  • Litigation experience: 1–3 years of civil litigation experience; employment law exposure preferred.
  • Courtroom confidence: comfortable and credible on your feet at hearings, conferences, and depositions.
  • Sharp writing and analysis: excellent legal writing, issue-spotting, and independent judgment.
  • Detail-oriented mindset: strong quality control mindset to catch issues before work product leaves.
  • Collaborative approach: takes pride in strengthening other attorneys’ work rather than building a personal docket.
  • Tech-forward: sees AI-assisted legal work as an opportunity and is energized by building a smarter, more consistent practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Employment law exposure.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $125k - $140k depending on experience
