Overview
An organization in the sharing economy sector is seeking an experienced Lead Counsel, Community Trust to provide legal support and counseling on fraud and safety defenses and enforcement, community support, law enforcement operations, global crisis management, and disaster response. This role reports to the Associate General Counsel, Community Trust.
Responsibilities
- Support the Fraud & Safety Operations team with proactive defenses and reactive interventions to maintain community safety.
- Provide legal analysis and advice on user Customer Support escalations involving policy and enforcement issues.
- Assess, manage, and advise cross-functional stakeholders on global legal risks, life safety, law enforcement operations, and internal investigations.
- Advise on and lead cross-functional projects with teams including Fraud & Safety, Global Crisis Management, Community Support, Communications, Community Policy, Public Policy, Privacy, and Hosting.
- Manage team resources to align with business priorities and objectives.
- Champion the organization's mission, ethics, and integrity.
- Support efforts to build and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace free of discrimination and harassment.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with strong academic credentials.
- Membership in the California Bar or eligibility to register as Registered In-House Counsel.
- 12 to 15 years of significant experience in litigation, risk mitigation, fraud and safety, law enforcement operations, and global policy application.
- Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning models is a plus.
- Outstanding analytical, oral, and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal issues for business audiences.
- Highly developed sense of urgency in time-sensitive and high-stakes matters.
- Proven track record of providing entrepreneurial, pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice balancing risk and reward.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage projects from inception to completion in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to advocate positions respectfully and collaboratively.
- Leadership qualities including humility and empathy.
- Passion for travel, home sharing, and appreciation for community.
- Good sense of humor, dislike for drama, and a results-driven mindset.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $240,000 to $300,000 USD.
- Eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and employee travel credits.
- Actual compensation depends on factors such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
Location
- This is a US-based remote-eligible position.
- Candidates must reside in a state where the employer has a registered entity.
- Occasional work at an office or attendance at offsite events may be required, as agreed with management.
