Overview

This role sits on the Legislative and Labor Team and supports the organization’s regulatory engagement as a core business function. Responsibilities include analyzing emerging legislative and regulatory requirements, building compliance frameworks, and shaping policy conversations across the gig economy, marketplace operations, and labor practices.

The position is Flex First and remote.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate cross-functional regulatory responses with a clear, well-analyzed legal perspective shared with teams including Policy and Government Affairs, Operations, Product, and Communications.
  • Complete comprehensive legal review of legislation impacting gig economy participants, marketplaces, retailers, and consumers, and deliver actionable guidance to business partners to support compliant operations.
  • Develop and document legal frameworks and compliance best practices for meeting legislative and regulatory mandates.
  • Manage relationships with external counsel, trade associations, and industry partners, including cross-industry initiatives that contribute to shaping the regulatory conversation.
  • Build and share expertise in emerging areas of law relevant to the organization’s business to support timely responses to new legal challenges.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
  • 3+ years of experience practicing law.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, analyze, and provide precise legal advice in response to legislative updates.
  • Experience working with legislative bodies, government agencies, or regulatory matters.
  • Proven success in supporting compliance initiatives and executing legal frameworks.
  • Understanding of legislative processes and the regulatory landscape.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with legislative or regulatory strategy.
  • Familiarity with issues facing marketplace platform companies, gig economy platform companies, or similarly highly regulated businesses.

Compensation & Benefits

This role provides highly market-competitive compensation and benefits based on location. The role is remote; base pay range depends on permanent work location. Offers may vary based on candidate experience and skills required for the role.

Base pay ranges (US candidates)

  • CA, NY, CT, NJ: $231,000—$244,000 USD
  • WA: $221,000—$233,500 USD
  • OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $212,000—$224,000 USD
  • All other states: $193,000—$203,500 USD

In addition to base pay, this role is eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.
