Overview

A well-established property casualty insurer with over 170 years of industry experience is seeking a Staff Counsel to join their virtual office based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This is a fully remote position focused on handling liability cases, with some opportunity to manage Workers' Compensation cases.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of predominantly low to moderate complexity liability cases from inception through trial and appeal.
  • Develop and apply litigation skills to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
  • Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently.
  • Provide case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients and business partners.
  • Offer advice and training to claim partners and clients.
  • Utilize technology, case management systems, and automation tools effectively.
  • Travel as required to meet business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a practicing attorney.
  • At least 3 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in the relevant state(s).
  • Experience independently handling cases through hearings, trials, dispositive motions, depositions, and appeals.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present information to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated persuasive legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • Proficient legal research skills and ability to utilize technology.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail and responsiveness.
  • Sound decision-making and strong negotiation skills.
  • Flexible and agile mindset with willingness to take on evolving challenges.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on location.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing Workers' Compensation cases is a plus.
  • Skilled in fostering collaborative relationships to deliver exceptional customer service.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $106,300.00 - $175,400.00 annually, determined by factors including role scope, location, skills, education, and experience.
  • Eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.
