Overview
A well-established Michigan-based law firm is seeking a seasoned Litigation Attorney to join its sophisticated insurance defense practice. This role is ideal for an experienced defense litigator with a strong background in handling high-exposure personal injury and property damage cases who is eager to take ownership of complex matters and serve as a trusted advisor to sophisticated clients.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage complex litigation from inception through resolution
- Develop litigation strategies, evaluate exposure, and advise on settlement and trial risks
- Conduct and defend depositions, including those of expert witnesses
- Participate meaningfully in mediations, facilitations, and alternative dispute resolution processes
- Prepare for trial and demonstrate courtroom confidence
- Communicate directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and in-house counsel
- Maintain proactive, efficient, and strategic case management
Requirements
- Five or more years of litigation experience, with a strong focus on insurance defense matters
- Demonstrated experience handling high-exposure personal injury and property damage claims
- Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral advocacy skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Active license to practice law in Michigan or eligibility for admission
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience representing national, Fortune 500, or other sophisticated corporate clients
- Prior experience complying with insurance litigation guidelines and managing matters within budget
- Appellate briefing or argument experience
- Ability to distill complex legal and factual issues into concise, persuasive recommendations
- Strategic mindset with a client service-oriented approach
- Proven ability to manage high-stakes litigation independently while collaborating within a team
- Experience serving as trusted outside counsel to insurers and sophisticated clients
- Practice experience in both state and federal courts
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000–$170,000, commensurate with experience
- Level: Mid-Senior to Senior Associate
