Overview

A global leader in family history is seeking a Litigation Counsel to manage litigation and pre-litigation matters across its worldwide operations. This is a remote position reporting to the Associate General Counsel for Litigation and Employment. The role involves overseeing all stages of litigation, advising the business on litigation risks, and managing outside counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handle small litigation and pre-litigation matters
  • Provide strategic legal advice to the business
  • Draft and review pleadings and settlement agreements
  • Offer litigation advice related to commercial contracts
  • Participate in mediations and arbitrations on behalf of the organization
  • Take, defend, or prepare for depositions
  • Review and manage the records retention policy
  • Establish and oversee the e-discovery program
  • Manage the insurance portfolio and annual insurance renewals
  • Supervise outside counsel, including revising drafts, leading strategy calls, and ensuring adherence to budgets
  • Manage the litigation docket
  • Travel occasionally as needed

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, including a combination of judicial clerkship, Big Law, and/or in-house experience; experience at a top-tier law firm preferred
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school with strong academic performance
  • Active membership in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar
  • Strong writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels
  • Ability to articulate complex legal issues clearly in both written and verbal formats
  • Self-starter capable of managing multiple priorities and projects independently while aligning with business objectives and evolving legal requirements
  • Highly self-aware with a low-ego approach; able to work effectively in a team environment with respect and humor
  • May be required to submit a writing sample during the interview process

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $120,000 - $150,000, dependent on location and experience
  • Eligibility for bonus and equity

Location

  • Remote position with a location-flexible work approach
  • Option to work from home, nearest office, or a hybrid model depending on role and location restrictions
