Overview
An established insurance brokerage firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Counsel to establish and lead a new litigation function within the organization. This role offers the opportunity to build a team from the ground up, shape litigation strategy, and work closely with business leaders on high-impact legal matters.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all litigation related to restrictive covenants, errors and omissions, and contractual disputes from pre-litigation through resolution, including trials and hearings.
- Appear in court to argue motions, attend hearings, and conduct trials as necessary.
- Provide strategic counseling on hiring and onboarding practices, including pre- and post-hire risk assessments and mitigation.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to disputes and settlements.
- Select, retain, and supervise outside counsel; manage budgets, strategy, and case outcomes.
- Advise business leaders on litigation risks, dispute avoidance, and contract enforcement.
- Develop and execute strategies for arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
- Collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Operations teams to identify risks early and align with business objectives.
- Prepare regular litigation reports and updates for executive leadership.
- Contribute to the development of litigation protocols and e-discovery management systems.
- Monitor legal trends and regulatory developments affecting litigation exposure.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Member in good standing with the California State Bar.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant litigation experience, including a broad spectrum of legal issues.
- Experience litigating restrictive covenant matters such as non-compete, non-solicitation, and confidentiality disputes.
- Ability to manage litigation and investigations internally and oversee outside counsel.
- Proven courtroom advocacy skills.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to evaluate legal, economic, and reputational risks.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and integrity.
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
- Insurance industry experience is preferred.
