Overview

An established labor and employment law firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal with California experience to join their remote team. This full-time, virtual role supports attorneys by providing substantive legal support in litigation matters, primarily in labor and employment law.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and manage client documents, including electronic data, assessing relevance to cases
  • Conduct litigation, criminal, and civil background checks; obtain authenticated records
  • Draft legal documents for attorney review such as removal documents, certificates of interested parties, answers, initial disclosures, motions, orders, scheduling orders, protective orders, deposition notices, affidavits, declarations, discovery responses, settlement agreements, and dismissal documents
  • Assist in preparation of motions for summary judgment, including checking deposition citations, assembling exhibits, and creating appendices
  • Identify and prepare all documents for production, including Bates labeling and redacting privileged/confidential information
  • Assist with trial preparation: manage exhibits, evidentiary matters, witness lists, files, subpoenas; coordinate and attend witness preparation meetings; assist at trial
  • Conduct online legal research and utilize electronic resources efficiently
  • Manage multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining professionalism and seeking assistance when needed
  • Support colleagues as needed
  • Review vendor invoices for accuracy and submit for processing in a timely manner

  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and office tools including document review software, eDiscovery technology, and document management systems
  • Experience with Relativity and/or Everlaw preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of litigation paralegal experience
  • Labor and employment litigation experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of litigation and trial procedures, including federal, California state, and appellate court rules and procedures
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience

Requirements

Candidates must meet at least one of the following:

  • Certificate of completion from an American Bar Association-approved paralegal program
  • Certificate or degree from a post-secondary institution with at least 24 semester units in law-related courses, accredited by a national or regional organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education
  • Baccalaureate or advanced degree in any subject plus at least one year of law-related experience under supervision of a California-licensed attorney or federal court practitioner, with a written declaration from the supervising attorney confirming qualification to perform paralegal tasks
