Overview
Hourly Compensation Range: $31.19 - $40.54
This role provides dedicated paralegal support to Senior Counsel and general assistance to the Office of General Counsel. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing litigation and agency correspondence, conducting investigations, and supporting various legal and compliance matters. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced higher education environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist Counsel with litigation case management, including discovery, document review, and evidence organization.
- Draft, prepare, and review legal correspondence, pleadings, agreements, and other documents under supervision.
- Conduct and coordinate internal investigations, gathering documentation from university departments.
- Prepare responses to federal and state agency requests, investigations, and related matters.
- Support academic units with state license requirements, disclosures, and manage timelines for timely filings.
- Assist with compliance initiatives such as regulatory filings, policy development, and audits (e.g., FERPA, Title IX, Privacy).
- Collect and organize responsive information across business units; prepare reports, summaries, and documentation.
- Maintain case files ensuring compliance with retention policies and deadlines.
- Manage calendars for litigation and internal matters, including hearings, depositions, and filing deadlines.
- Communicate with internal stakeholders to collect information and status updates.
- Prepare summaries of legal research and case developments for attorney review.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- ABA-approved paralegal program certificate preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of paralegal or legal assistant experience, preferably in litigation.
- Experience in higher education or regulated environments preferred.
- Familiarity with case management systems and legal research tools.
- Proficient in the use of AI in the legal profession, adhering strictly to Ethics and Professional Responsibility guidelines as per ABA’s Formal Opinion 512.
