Overview
This role involves managing and supervising a local office or region, including coaching and mentoring attorneys and handling administrative functions. The Managing Attorney may also manage a reduced litigation caseload.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage attorneys within the local office or region, including coaching and mentoring.
- Review and assign new files within the office.
- Conduct one 30-minute education and training session per month.
- Review two files per attorney each month.
- Review one plaintiff deposition transcript per direct report attorney each quarter.
- Hold monthly one-on-one meetings with each attorney to discuss file reviews, cases of concern, case evaluations, upcoming trials, recent training, performance against goals, and document these discussions.
- Perform detailed reviews of all pre-trial reports.
- Participate in roundtable discussions with claims 60 days before trial.
- Maintain an active diary of cases of concern.
- Handle a reduced caseload from case inception through post-trial motions, following best practices.
- Complete miscellaneous tasks and projects as assigned by department leaders.
Requirements
Education
- Law degree and admission to the bar in the state(s) where the team and files are venued.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of insurance defense experience.
- At least 10 insurance defense personal injury jury trials or equivalent litigation experience.
- Previous experience supervising attorneys and staff.
Skills and Abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of insurance, torts, evidence, civil procedure, and trial practice.
- Effective communication, persuasion, and analytical skills.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction and strong organizational skills.
- Must be able to travel by automobile up to 20% of work time.
- Must meet established standards regarding personal driving history and current license status.
Preferred Qualifications
- Law degree from a state-accredited or ABA-accredited law school.
- Over 10 years of insurance defense experience.
- Experience defending higher exposure insurance defense personal injury jury trials.
- Exceptional communication, persuasion, and analytical skills.

- Salary range: USD $125,349.44 to USD $351,748.97 per year, depending on experience, skills, and location.
