Overview

This role involves serving as a commercial attorney responsible for negotiating vendor agreements critical to operations and managing a variety of financial agreements. The position requires intellectual curiosity and versatility to support the development of new business lines within a leading digital asset platform for institutional participation in crypto.

Responsibilities

  • Own vendor contracts and third-party risk management from a legal perspective.
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial, custody, and brokerage/trading contracts, including master services agreements, NDAs, vendor agreements, partnership agreements, and intercompany agreements.
  • Negotiate external client agreements such as custody, brokerage, or trading agreements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Third Party Risk Management team to develop and maintain the company’s contract management framework, guidelines, and playbooks.
  • Lead medium-to-large projects and processes independently, breaking larger projects into smaller tasks.
  • Function as a prolific individual contributor within the corporate and commercial legal space.
  • Understand the organization’s strategy to effectively lead contract development and projects aligned with team goals.
  • Share knowledge across appropriate teams as negotiations progress.
  • Prioritize work based on company goals and communicate the rationale behind legal work.
  • Build strong relationships with sales, product, engineering, operations, and other teams to identify and resolve legal issues, structure complex agreements, and improve efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively both internally and externally, including client-facing interactions.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a focus on financial services or corporate law.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial and vendor contracts.
  • Experience negotiating brokerage or other trading-related agreements is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with business and cross-functional teams to resolve complex issues and strategize growth.
  • Enthusiasm for cryptocurrency and foundational understanding of the crypto industry and applicable laws and regulations in the U.S. and internationally.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to execute with moderate supervision while balancing commercial and legal considerations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in the founding of new financial systems, as exemplified by an appreciation for the soundtrack to Hamilton (optional).
